Solombala Machine-building Plant (SMZ) was founded in 1933, when Solombala repair and mechanical workshops were renamed to Solombala Machine-building and Foundry Plant. The main competitor of SMZ was The Velikiye Luki Machine-building Plant which was founded in 1944.
After long competitive activity of two best producers of safety and efficient hydraulic cranes Holding Company "Lifting machines" was founded in 2005. Holding Company "Lifting machine" consolidates two leading Russian companies of forest machinery.
In 2006 a great investment program was started. The factory and the service net were reconstructed. The European standards of service and management were introduced.
In 2007 the output of hydraulic cranes became more than 2000 units. The volume of commodity output exceeded 28 million euro. The production volume exceeded the same gauge of European leaders such as Loglift, Jonsered and Epsilon.
During the Holding's existence the share of Russian market was increased to 53%. Now we can say that the Holding Company "Lifting machines" becomes one of the world leader producer of the hydraulic equipment.
